The clean overall shape resembles a streamlined Volkswagen Squareback from the late 1960s, but with out unnecessary beading, edges or ornamentation. The downwards-canted trapezoidal grille opening, front and rear lights, bumper pads and superimposed roof are all fundamental graphic elements.
Powered by an asynchronous 45kW electric motor driving the front wheels (and fed by a lithium-ion battery located between the rear axle and the vehicle's transmission tunnel) the Trabant nT is able to achieve a 130km/h maximum speed.
The company aims to make use of the historic Trabant's cult appeal to offer an alternative to conventionally-powered automobiles by the year 2012. But for the now the project's initiators are actively seeking a dedicated investor to bring the concept from its development stages to production reality.
